When I was 16, I dreamed of owning a Rolls Royce. At that age, it felt like the pinnacle of success—an ultimate symbol of having "made it." I forgive myself for being young and naive back then, and though I might still buy one in the future, it’s no longer a life goal.
My perspective on money has evolved. Money is no longer about status for me, but about stability and freedom. It gives me the ability to say “no” to things that don’t align with my true self. It grants me the power to choose what I want to work on, rather than being forced to work for survival.
Wealth today, in my eyes, is about the freedom to walk away from situations that don’t serve you. It’s the ability to live comfortably without feeling the need to outshine others. You become truly wealthy when you have the time and freedom to engage in creative work, without being chained to the grind just to pay bills or maintain societal status.
Owning material things for the sake of competition is a never-ending game. You buy something expensive, feel superior for a while, but soon find yourself comparing with others who have even more. The chase never ends, and it's a shallow victory.
The purpose of wealth is to give you the freedom to create, not to consume in a bid to showcase superiority. Status should not be your motivation; stability should. When you're free from the pressures of consumption, you can focus on building things that bring deep satisfaction and value to the world. That’s a far more fulfilling path than constantly buying to impress others.
Many people spend money to buy status, but it’s a futile exercise. True fulfillment doesn’t come from owning a flashy car or luxurious home. It comes from using your resources to unlock your creative potential. When I was younger, I believed in those status symbols, but now I realize they were distractions. Money should be used to fuel creativity, not to boost ego.
One of the most transformative practices I’ve embraced is meditation. It has helped me dissolve the ego, that sense of identity tied to how others perceive me. Through meditation, I’ve learned that my worth is not tied to material things or external validation. The ego clouds our true selves, and only by shedding it can we experience real freedom and joy.
Meditation has been a game-changer for me, allowing me to see beyond the illusions of wealth and status. It purifies the mind, clears out the emotional baggage we carry, and helps us connect with our true purpose.
My journey from dreaming of a Rolls Royce to finding peace through creative work and meditation has been life-changing. It’s no longer about how others see me, but how I experience life in each moment. Status and ego are fleeting, but the fulfillment that comes from creating and living authentically lasts a lifetime.
I invite you to reflect on your own journey. Are you chasing status or seeking creative freedom? Let go of comparisons and focus on building something meaningful. The world doesn’t need more people chasing trophies—it needs more creators.
